Running a really long way for St Leonard’s Hospice
On Sunday 9th October Phil Blackburn will be running his first ever Marathon. Although he is no stranger to a hard slog, Phil would ordinarily count himself amongst the cycling fraternity having recently covered 103 miles on two wheels… for fun. He’s clearly not playing at this fitness malarkey. Phil – along with colleagues Pete & Marcin – set up “Ben Johnson Spoolers” earlier this year: a cycling club open to amateurs and more experienced cyclists alike to encourage all of us to get fit and enjoy the great outdoors.
This time around however, Phil will be running 26.2 miles in the third Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon in support of Ben Johnson’s nominated charity St Leonard’s Hospice. Many of the team here have been touched by the fantastic work that St Leonard’s do, and after a close relative passed away there Phil was moved to raise funds for them by pushing himself (well, his knees mainly) to the limit.
This hospice provides exceptional end of life care for local people with life limiting illnesses, not to mention a caring and sensitive approach to relatives and friends going through it with them. We are proud to support St Leonards as a company, and we’re cheering Phil on in his next super-human feat.
