January update from our Interiors team
we hope you’ve enjoyed your Christmas break and are ready to embrace 2017… we certainly are, and we’re starting the new year still buzzing from our achievements in 2016, including:
- our appointment by Covea Insurance to deliver a 700 workstation furniture project,
- the design and build of The Rank Group’s new head office in Sheffield, and
- Taylor Wimpey’s new head office in Sunderland.
a round-up of happenings in 2016
2016 saw us engage with some pretty cool companies and we delivered some fantastic design, build and furniture projects, including the completion of Unilever Aladdin, Search Consultancy, Wagg Pet Foods and Esh Homes.
we were delighted to have been short listed for the Refit & Refurbishment ‘Company of The Year Award’ at the Insider Property Awards, on the 29th September. This recognition demonstrates our excellent work and commitment to the Yorkshire region. Our Sales and Marketing Director, Emma Dodsley joined Colin Murray on stage to present Knight Frank with the ‘Office Agency of the Year Award’ – go Emma!
proud to help
after Mor Music’s York shop was badly damaged in the floods of Christmas 2016 we were pleased to offer our support by donating furniture to help the business get back up on their feet. Our gesture was received with thanks and to our surprise the story was captured in The York Press.
Will Sherwood & Arwen the office pup
we welcome Will to our Interiors team who brings great skills in product and workplace CAD design and 3D visualisation. Will is enthusiastic about the role and the knowledge he will gain from working alongside our experienced design and build team.
let’s not forget our new addition to the Newcastle team: Arwen. Although she zero design flair, the lovely German Shepherd puppy keeps us on our toes and forces us to practice what we preach when it comes to work-life balance.
how to lose an extra 170 calories in a day
if you sit at your desk for most of the day, research shows that you are at a higher risk of weight gain, obesity, diabetes and heart disease. unfortunately, being desk-bound is frankly unavoidable in many professions, but with the advent of the sit-stand desk, being sat down for hours on end needn’t be.
sit/stand desks are becoming an increasingly popular solution for the workplace. by providing the opportunity to stand, and encouraging users to vary their posture throughout the day, the health benefits to staff are numerous.
So what exactly is a sit/ stand desk?
simply a desk that can be adjusted from sitting to standing height. A standard seated desk has a height of around 720mm, whereas a sit/stand desks can range in height from 680 to 1205mm.
health benefits to using a sit/ stand desk
average person burns around 30% of calories through daily activity. with a sedentary job or lifestyle this is halved to around 15% ! therefore taking every opportunity to move can make a difference to the amount of calories you burn.
For more information on the health benefits of standing while you work, and some ideas for workplace furniture to help you do so, read our Take a Stand article here .
