What's new at Neocon 2012?

NeoCon’s three-day trade show at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart draws tens of thousands from national design and architecture firms to see the latest innovative office furniture products. This year we felt that NeoCon could be particularly interesting due to the many changes taking place in typical workplace environments…

Many industry leaders feel that the office furniture industry is coming to a crossroads. More attention is now given to mobile devices and flexible workspaces, with so many employees no longer tied to their desks from “nine to five”. Now that people can work anytime, anywhere – the challenge for manufacturers is to accept and understand these changes and create a product that will draw workers back to their desks as opposed to holding a meeting in a coffee shop or working at home.

Steelcase is one manufacturer who feels very strongly about “flexible workplace solutions”. They exhibited a number of leading technology products at the show including the newly extended media:scape collaborative working technology system (pictured above). They also launched their new product TagWizard. A personal space reservation system allowing users to find an available space, scan in and reserve any shared workspace from their laptop or mobile device. The system also collects information using occupancy sensors and measures temperature, air quality and lighting levels.
