Working the latest Colour Trends of 2013

It’s January (as if you didn’t know). For many of us this means a chance for a fresh start, new years resolutions, looking forward and making plans. For creatives around the world it means new design directions and fresh trends for the year ahead. But who decides what’s hot and what’s not for 2013?

We paid a visit to our friends over at trend forecasters Scarlet Opus to find out, and we weren’t disappointed. Please do take a look at their 2013 colour trend lowdown here, it’s fascinating stuff! We won’t bore you by repeating what’s already been said, but we will say that our favourite (for now anyway) is Emerald. Selected as Pantone’s colour of the year, we think this trend has got serious legs. It covers a whole spectrum of colours & shades, and at this time of year, evokes just the kind of fresh & funky look we need (anyone else feeling a bit grey?).

Forget installing a slide in your office. Updating your colour scheme can invigorate and refresh your environment at a fraction of the cost. Get “Absinthe Emerald” into your work life with joyful stationery or a humble houseplant, or if you’re feeling a bit more committed, why not update your furniture, even your cupboard doors. For those going the whole hog (taking a leaf out of google’s book) a bit of Astroturf in the boardroom might be just the ticket… just watch out for carpet burns.
