Thousands raised for Abigail - Golf Day Report
If you’ve been following our blog for the last few months, you’ll know we’ve been humbled and inspired in equal measure by one little girl from Doncaster. Abigail Cook, 8, has been ticking off a list of achievements on her ‘wish list’ after being diagnosed with a rare degenerative neurological condition called Batten Disease eighteen months ago.
Last Friday, 26th April we were pleased to host a fundraising golf day at Doncaster Golf Club in aid of Abigail’s wishlist appeal. After months of organising the teams, press & prizes, our very own Grant Freeman was finally free to enjoy a glorious day on the course, and watch as the fundraising total reached a whopping £5336!
The event was kicked-off by Jamie McDonnell, IBF Bantamweight boxer (shown above, center, between Abigail’s parents Lindsey & Martin). Jamie took time out from his training for a world title boxing fight at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium on 11th May. 17 teams took part in the tournament and everybody had a fantastic time. Money raised will pay for Abigail to visit ‘The Princess Palace’ at Disneyland Paris and tick off one more item on her list.
Particular thanks go to Doncaster Golf Course, Jamie McDonnell, everyone who donated prizes (and there were some corkers!), and the anonymous gentleman who turned up simply to put £250 in the fundraising pot without a word. We love the kindness of strangers.
Ben Johnson Ltd will continue to raise funds for Abigail throughout 2013, so keep popping back for updates on how we are getting on.
