Search Consultancy

Sector: Recruitment
Location: Leeds, Brighton, Manchester
Scope of Works: Design, Fit Out, Furniture Installation

The Brief:
Following the lease expiry of their Leeds Office, Search Consultancy approached three companies to provided proposals for the design, fit-out and furniture of their new office. Ben Johnson went onto win the furniture and fit-out contract via a competitive tender process and now support Search Consultancy nationally, most recently completing an office fit-out in Brighton.

The Challenges:

  • Managing the design over two floors. Double-height space on the front elevation added complexity when installing training rooms with bi-folding walls.
  • Designing around the existing air conditioning system to avoid costly reconfigurations.
  • Exploring value engineering methods to reach the budget allocated.
  • Optimising the space to ensure the maximum number of call centre workers could be accommodated within the parameter of the building.

The Solution:
The office design had a natural split between the open plan working area and the reception/meeting rooms. Predominantly a call centre environment supporting 80 people, Ben Johnson worked with the client to complete a space optimization exercise where a 1200mm x 800mm desk footprint was allocated to each member of staff. The fit-out scope of works included power and data to all workstations and installation of a comms room with separate air-conditioning. A new kitchen and breakout area was created for all call centre staff to relax and get away from their desks. New partitions were installed to create six interview rooms seating 2-4 people each, and a training room with a bi-folding wall to seat 8 to 30 people depending on configuration. Skyline windows were cut into the top of the double height partitioning, allowing natural light into the internal interview rooms. Other features included a bespoke reception desk, feature graphics and manifestation on the front of the meeting rooms and behind reception.
