Penspen Integrity

Sector: Global engineering and management services
Location: Newcastle
Scope of Works: Fit Out, Furniture Installation

The Brief:
When Penspen took the decision to move offices from St Peter’s Wharf they approached Ben Johnson for help. The scheme for the new premises had to reflect a global engineering brand but without being too ostentatious. Ben Johnson were one of three fit out companies who bid for the work on a design and build basis.

The Solution:
When planning the space our designer used the integral curve of the building as a feature. The client suite and employee work area were separated by a curved wall, constructed from a mixture of solid and glazed partitioning. This mix broke up the corridor and created a feature which allowed clients a glimpse into “back of house” and the staff a view of the impressive building atrium.
A bespoke reception desk with company branding welcomed guests with the brand continuing down the corridor and into the client meeting rooms. Historical company memorabilia was also displayed as they made their journey. Feature carpet and vinyl was used in the open plan and breakout spaces to create interest and distinguish walk areas.
The client explored both bench and pentagon workstations, but chose the pentagon which they felt was more spacious and less like a call centre environment. No pedestals or personal desk storage was allocated as staff were given lockers instead.
The scheme incorporated a mixture of meeting areas, ranging from the higher spec client boardroom and training room to the smaller internal meeting rooms and quiet rooms. The meeting provision was further increased by a number of informal open plan furniture pods; ideal for project meetings and non-confidential discussions. The large kitchen and breakout space also doubled up as an additional informal meeting space outside dining hours.

The scheme was delivered on time and on budget

We decided to award Ben Johnson the project due to their friendly, honest approach and reasonable price. Their commitment to getting the job done is second to none, nothing was too much trouble. From the first meeting right up until project completion and follow up appointments all staff have been really helpful and have gone above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. The environment they have created for us is fantastic, in particular the new reception and break out areas. Our staff are thoroughly enjoying working in the new premises and it’s professional look and feel.
