Sector: Engineering Consultants
Location: Leeds
Scope of Works: Kitchen, bespoke Joinery & Furniture

The Client:
Grontmij is a leading European company in the Consulting & Engineering industry with world class expertise in the fields of energy, highways & roads, light rail, sustainable buildings and water.

The Brief:
When Grontmij were looking to convert part of their existing Leeds office into a Business Hub, they approached Ben Johnson as trusted consultative advisers. The space was dark and very cellular. A key priority for the client was to improve the lighting throughout and create a flexible space that could be used for a variety of activities from quiet working to informal and formal meetings

The Challenges:
It was necessary to create structural alterations to the shell to open up the space. Because the building was occupied at the time, this had to be managed out of hours to ensure minimum disruption to the client.

The Solution:
The Business Hub is now a dynamic flexible environment that can be used by all Grontmij staff. The space was broken down into several zones to support various types of working activity. Areas include space for more formal meetings complemented with media walls and plasma screens. A variety of soft seating areas were provided to encourage informal meetings, these included a quiet space to concentrate and areas to simply chill and take a break. The dynamic and flexible theme carried through to the finishes with many furniture items and joinery pieces selected in vibrant colours. The new space also included a new feature kitchen and the lighting throughout the scheme was improved through the use of LED panel lighting and feature pendant lights. The client is so pleased with the Business Hub and its success that they are now considering rolling the concept out into other offices.
