The Rank Group Plc
Scope of Works: Design and Build
The Client: UK’s largest multi-channel casino operator. Its brands include Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo.
The Brief: Ben Johnson were appointed to deliver the design and build of The Rank Group’s new head office in Sheffield working with their project team to deliver their vision for the building within the desired budget.
- Confidentiality : The opening of Rank Group’s new Sheffield office was highly confidential, so special consideration had to be given when communicating with suppliers or arranging site access for trades.
- Varied requirements : Delivering a Call Centre can require a more specialist approach compared to a general office. During the design process, consideration had to be given to confidentiality and data control on the work floor, training rooms, coaching and 121 rooms. Also accommodated within the scheme were showers, lockers, changing facilities, and a large breakout area which doubled as a space for team briefing.
- Growth : The space was designed to accommodate 60 employees at launch, with an additional 40 planned in for future growth. This meant consideration was required for the additional vacant space without it appearing empty and unused.
The Solution: The breakout area was a dynamic space separated from the main office. The space incorporated a variety of furniture solutions to create different types of zones to respond to any requirement. The zones included dining seating, informal soft seating areas and auditorium seating to accommodate more employees within the space to conduct company briefings.
As the office was near the station, it was part of Rank’s business model to encourage health and well-being at work and encourage users to cycle/walk to work. The building had cycle racks, and two additional showers were installed on the Rank floor with secure lockers and a changing area.
The building had an effective door entry system, this was extended onto Rank’s floor to limit access into the main work floor where data protection was important. Personal storage was provided outside the work area to prevent users bringing personal equipment into the office area to protect data. Plasma screens showing performance data were displayed across the floor, the building’s central columns were utilised to attached plasma TVs and bespoke high tables to provide informal mentoring and coaching areas near the workstations.
Ben Johnson arranged for sample furniture to be installed in our Leeds showroom for the client to review and firm up their requirements. Having made the decision to relocate our head office to Sheffield, Ben Johnson Interiors were instrumental in helping us to select the most suitable building through space planning our shortlisted properties. Their commitment to understanding the brief and delivering our project was obvious from the initial meeting, through to completing the project. Our staff are delighted with the new space and we would have no hesitation in recommending Ben Johnson Interiors.
