Fancy that! Ben Johnson Interiors hits the headlines again

Ben Johnson Interiors has recently completed interiors work on Smiffys’ new 13,000 sq ft offices in Central Park, Leeds.

Within 24 hours of issuing this news to the regional business press, a feature on this fabulous new workplace has appeared twice in the Yorkshire Post (in print and online) in the Business Desk Yorkshire and here in Bdaily Yorkshire, with more coverage expected in design, facilities and theatrical press.

Smiffys is a family owned, global fancy dress company which ships over 26 million items across the world every year. It was founded in 1894 and has a 5,000 product base which includes popular characters and brands such as Elvis Presley, Marylin Monroe and Angry Birds, as well as wigs, theatrical make up and accessories.

Many of Smiffys’ new costumes are designed and marketed at the Leeds base, so the interior layout and style of the new workplace was of vital importance to the company.

Ben Johnson Interiors space-planned, designed and fitted the two-story city centre premises for efficient working, productivity and comfort. Sophie Peckett Designs, who has worked with Smiffys for many years on their brand, completed the interior finishes, including colour palettes and wallpaper choices. 

The impressive new Smiffys interior now includes workstations for 100 people, a bistro-style communal eating area, juice bar complete with zip tap and juicing machine, private areas, event space, a library and breakout zones for meetings.



Initially, the Ben Johnson Interiors team visited the former workplace to ascertain exactly how the different people at Smiffys worked together and what their aspirations were for a new site. This was to understand what types of space would be necessary in the new workplace in terms of storage and display; creative areas; private offices; collaborative working space; breakout areas; and communal space. The Ben Johnson team then created an interior plan for Smiffys’ new premises designed to enhance operational capacity, productivity and create a fun, feel-good factor for all.

Emma Dodsley from Ben Johnson Interiors says: “We worked closely with Smiffys to understand exactly what their ideal working environment would be, and we have now delivered a vibrant, bespoke workspace for them which will not only impress and uplift staff and visitors but also speed up operations and improve communications and productivity.”

Director of Smiffys, Dominique Peckett, said: “We love our colourful new workplace – not only for its fun appearance, but also because the new layout and efficient use of space makes our work much easier. What the team love the most is the Juice Bar complete with zip tap, and automatic juicing machine, along with the library which they use for informal get-togethers and brunch meetings. Our new workplace is nearer the city centre and we now have enough space to put on exciting events and promotions. Hats off to Ben Johnson Interiors!”
