Welcome to the Ben Johnson Interiors’ first newsletter. We’re based in Leeds, York and Newcastle and we design and build amazing workplaces throughout the UK.
Every few months, we’ll be bringing you the latest updates, styles and products from the world of workplace interiors; showcasing recent examples of our work; and bringing you news and views from our friendly, efficient and super-creative team of talented and experienced people!
Here are a few images of our work below, from breakout zones for international software businesses to meeting room choices for Unilever and seating areas for global financial companies. We cover all types of workplaces!
What’s Hot In The Workplace
Ben Johnson Interiors always like to stay ahead of the game when it comes to
the latest workplace design trends and innovative new products, so here are
a few we’ve picked out.
Flexibility in offices – space that can quickly be transformed – is a strong theme which is set to continue, so mobile room dividers are still a key feature of today’s agile workplaces. Spacestor’s “Pallisades Grid” is a modular, movable zone divider, available in wood or metal. It allows for simple division of space into zones for specific working styles, without building walls.
Open plan offices can often be noisy, so what can you do to mitigate this? Acoustic baffles are one answer and many new designs have come to the market this year. We like the colourful Baudot Zero Wall range from Allermuir (Senator Group).
We’ve recently installed the stylish Silta high tables by Allermuir in SharkNinja’s new Northern Headquarters in Leeds. These tables are great for breakout spaces, adhoc meetings or simply places to perch and connect. Modern meets vintage with industrial design with modern connectivity points and convenient bag hooks incorporated.
Finally, we love the amazing Moving Walls by Bisley. It’s an ingenious mobile whiteboard and clever table combined. Table legs can be removed and stacked, table top removed and hung on wall as a presentation panel.
There are so many more wonderful new products on the market and sadly we only have room for a few here. But please get in touch if there’s something specific
you’re looking for and we will do our best to source it.
It seems news of our amazing workplaces is spreading far and wide! We’re very excited to announce numerous fabulous workplace designs and fit-outs completed this year – and in new areas too.
- Shark Ninja, global manufacturers of 5-star household cleaning products, commissioned Ben Johnson Interiors to design, fit and source furniture for their new 16,500 sqft Northern Headquarters in Thorpe Park near Leeds.
- SCC is the UK’s largest independent IT company and Ben Johnson Interiors has completed extensive interiors work to the firm’s Birmingham site in 2019.
- International engineering giant Mott MacDonald has commissioned yet more design and fit-out services from us. As well as Newcastle and Leeds, we have now completed their Nottingham and Birmingham workplaces.
- Red Kite Games is moving from Huddersfield to Leeds this month and is delighted with Ben Johnson Interiors’ fit out and furniture work.
- Smiffys Fancy Dress, who ship over 26 million items overseas annually, has moved into spectacular new offices in Leeds city centre, designed and fitted by us.
- Finally, the offices of well-known recruitment agency, Search have received the Ben Johnson Interiors “wow” treatment in Manchester this year.
International Recognition For
Ben Johnson Interiors
In June this year, Ben Johnson Interiors’ fabulous, new global headquarters for baby brand Tommee Tippee in the North East of England received international acclaim by appearing in prestigious Office Snapshots website (tagline: “be inspired by the world’s best office designs”). This was a first for us and Ben Johnson Interiors
are delighted to be included with the world’s best.
The brief for Tommee Tippee’s new 33,000 sqft office was to create a workplace that would build pride, attract talent and reflect the strength of the brand internationally. On completion, the CEO said “We are delighted and proud of our new HQ … the new office gives our employees a fantastic environment.” See item here:
Sound Advice – Acoustic Pods
The benefits of collaboration in the office are many – but in today’s open offices it’s sometimes difficult to hold private conversations or find the peace to focus. We are increasingly being asked to include acoustic pods into workplaces. Mobile or fixed office pods can look bright and attractive and offer practical solutions. Offering additional, flexible spaces like these within an open office presents a simple, cost-effective solution to noise issues while still offering collaboration areas. There are many different styles on the market. For a booth that means business, try the Frovi Jig Shed with its solid oak frame, oak laminate table top, LED lighting and efficient acoustic properties.
You can see more information on acoustic pods on our website here:
Our Offices Hit The Headlines
Ben Johnson Interiors’ work for Gama Healthcare in Halifax, so impressed the regional business press, that not one, but three business publications featured the workplace.
Gama Healthcare is a world leader in the manufacture and development of infection control products for the healthcare sector. The company moved to new premises earlier in the year and turned to Ben Johnson Interiors to give their new workplace the “wow factor”.
The respected Yorkshire Business Desk ran a prominent item on 30 April closely followed by B Daily the next day and the story was then followed up by the Halifax Courier on 2 May. In addition, numerous, national facilities and workplace publications offered to run the story with images as a showcase feature.
Our design and fit-out for Smiffys Fancy Dress new workplace and showroom in Leeds hit the news in a big way too – with the Yorkshire Post, Business Desk, B Daily and Business Insider all featuring the zany offices which feature a juice bar, staff “town hall”, costume design areas and showrooms.
SharkNinja’s new two storey workplace, completed in October, has been featured in no less than seven publications with more coverage expected.
And we have more media in the pipeline. It seems the press can’t get enough of our workplaces – probably because they’re a lot more pleasant than most newspaper offices we’ve visited!
Fun Away From The Workplace
At Ben Johnson Interiors we think it’s important to really get to know the local businesspeople in our area – by relaxing and having fun together. So, we like to enjoy entertaining times with clients and contacts at sports and charity events, property awards and spa pamper days. See below:
Afternoon Of Beauty
We all love a little relaxation and luxury so what better way to experience this than to offer a beauty pamper event to our female business colleagues too? 15 of us enjoyed a superb afternoon at All About You, in Newcastle. Your turn next year boys!
Business Insider Property Awards
We’re proud to say that our workplaces have been shortlisted for numerous prestigious awards this year. Here is our CEO Adrian Rumble (left) at the Business Insider Property Awards earlier this summer with Rachel McDermott, Emma Dodsley and Matt Day – all from Ben Johnson Interiors.
North East Property Rugby Festival
What a great day we had at the North East Property Rugby Festival, in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice on 22 May. Here’s Rachel from our Newcastle base and Rebecca from our York office enjoying the sunshine at the event:
Leeds & Newcastle United Matches
We’re big football fans at Ben Johnson Interiors and love a good match. All our guests enjoy the great food and corporate hospitality which accompany our football outings, too. This year we’ve been to Elland Road, Leeds, St James Park Newcastle and Bramall Lane Sheffield.
