Box Clever Consulting

The Brief

Box Clever wanted a building with character that fitted their company ethos. The original wooden beams and ironmongery within the 4th Floor at Victoria Wharf fitted their requirements perfectly and reflected the company brand. Ben Johnson were introduced to help the client understand how they could best plan and fit-out the unusual floor plate to meet their needs.

Box Clever regularly held one-to-one interviews so required the space to be 50% cellular. This proved a challenge when trying to incorporate partition walls around exposed beams, there was also the complexity of designing around the boarded floor with fixed floor box positions as Box Clever wanted to avoid perimeter trunking as it would spoil the look and feel.

The Solution

We have extensive listed buildings experience and explored many ways to construct the required number of cellular spaces whilst leaving the beams exposed and retaining acoustic performance.

Our team designed the partitions around the beams, using a mixture of plaster board and insulation to fill the spaces between the beams where necessary. Cabling was kept in check by designing the space around the existing fixed boxes where possible and utilising cabling capacity within the furniture to reduce the amount of floor boxes required. The final touches were added through quirky wall graphics, manifestation and furniture in keeping with the client’s passion for all things retro.
