Centrica Storage wanted to move from their Hedon based office as their lease was coming to an end and the building they were in offered no room for expansion. They needed to accommodate approx. 195 employees within an office that accommodated all of their requirements and reflected how they wanted to work. A high quality fit-out was important to them, along with attention to detail, which IDC Consult were in charge of ensuring.

Centrica Storage appointed Box Architects to design their office, and Ben Johnson Interiors job was to create the office from that vision. Architect Graham Price comments: “The layout was developed to maximise the perimeter natural window light in the open plan which was achieved through planning the main spine of meeting rooms and resource areas down the centre of the office space. This maximised the light for the open plan staff keeping banks of desks to a minimum depth.” Centrica Storage also favoured the concept due to the Voronoi design: from the reception desk and screen, linking through to the open plan offices in the manifestations, screen designs and applied vinyl to the walls. For the Ben Johnson Interiors fit-out team, the project offered a good challenge, the main one being the central spine on both floors – but nothing they couldn’t handle. This was a complicated build with many features, but Ben Johnson moved in to an empty shell of a building and created the designers vision to the highest quality.
