Good Skin Days
Good Skin Days
The Brief
Good Skin Days are a multi award-winning medical skin clinic, as well as the largest skin clinic in Yorkshire. Good Skin Days required a medical clinic fit out in order to open up a new facility in Gateshead. The medical fit out works were to be completed in a 10-week timeframe and Ben Johnson Interiors were awarded the fit out project only 2 weeks prior to commencement, meaning we were faced with challenging timescales. The 2,700 sqft facility required a full strip out and the building was to return to its shell before we could get under way creating a new clinic environment. Working alongside Medical Architecture, we got to work.
The Solution
Good Skin Days needed to make best use out of the space they had, without compromising on the size of the procedure rooms. The facility is split over two floors, with the ground floor made up by the reception area, two consultation rooms, a well-equipped staff room, clean room, dirty room, one recovery room and two surgical rooms. The first floor includes a further two surgical rooms, two recovery rooms, two consultation rooms, a staff room, clean room, and WC. Both floors have a dedicated client waiting area and all rooms are up to date with the current rules and regulations set by the Care Quality Commission.
A full strip out was required to allow for all new partitions, all new beach doors and frames, all mechanical and electrical (M&E), new flooring finishes and complete redecoration throughout. Good Skin Days wanted to bring their brand into the space, so the decoration, signage and chosen flooring all incorporated the blue in their branding.
Mechanical works consisted of a boiler replacement, including a boiler flue and installations of radiators, heating pipework, cooling systems, and an external air handling unit including internal ventilation installation, all of which are crucial in a project of this nature. Electrical works involved the installation of all new lighting, general power containment systems, data and telephone, as well as CCTV, intruder/security alarms and fire alarm systems. Nurse call systems were also a key requirement, as well as EV charging and surgical luminaires to all procedure rooms, which included a battery back up system in case of any power problems. The M&E was a huge part of this project, with our fit-out team having to turn an empty shell into a functioning high end medical facility that represented the Good Skin Days brand.
As well as M&E, joinery was also a big part of the project. The new medical clinic required a reception area, which included a reception desk and the manufacture of a reception counter. Other joinery works consisted of the installation of pre-assembled high pressure laminate healthcare units (installed to suit the clinical basins for durability), procedure room cabinets to allow for plenty of space, a staff beverage bay in the staff room and integrated plumbing systems to all procedure rooms. Booth seating that included oak feature side panels were installed on the first floor, offering clients a comfy place to sit whilst they wait for their appointment.
The Finished Project
Good Skin Days have now opened their medical clinic in Gateshead, and we have received some great feedback from the wider team. The biggest challenge our fit-out team faced was the air handling unit due to the 8 week lead time, the AHU only arrived on week 9 of the project, however, our team still completed the project on time and within budget. All of the 4 procedure rooms are finished to a high end standard, including all the small but important finishes such altro whiterock and gradus sure- protec wall protection. The Good Skin Days clinic is welcoming and easy to navigate, so patients can feel comfortable and at ease when they visit.
