The Mott MacDonald Group is a global engineering, management and development consultancy with headquarters in the UK. It was founded in 1989 and employs 16,000 staff in 150 countries. Mott MacDonald is one of the largest employee-owned companies in the world.

Ben Johnson began working with Mott MacDonald in 2010 when they were relocating their York Office. Following the success of the project, we have completed subsequent projects in Newcastle, Leeds, Preston and Liverpool.  

Mott Macdonald’s Leeds office had a high percentage of employees requiring their own workstation, but the company also required their people to embrace new working practices. Mott Macdonald wanted to encourage agile working and co-working through the provision of quiet areas, breakout zones and lockers and they wished to offer hot desking areas for employees visiting from other locations. There was to be a synergy and alignment between Mott Macdonald’s other recently completed offices in terms of design. However, a degree of autonomy was encouraged, as each location is given the opportunity to personalise their Mott Macdonald workplace in terms of the approved brand colours they use and the engineering sectors they accommodate.

The finished project

We have created another agile workspace for Mott Macdonald that gives their Leeds team various workspace options and sociable areas to work, to host events and meetings alike, as well as room to expand as the business grows. The scheme takes learnings and inspiration from other recently completed Mott Macdonald offices, but with a local Yorkshire twist, creating an amazing space for the Leeds team to call home.
