The Brief

Binary Consultants were growing and looking for a new office in Harrogate, they chose Victoria Avenue, but needed a design and build company to help transform its dated interior. They had very few visitors, so the breakout and kitchen were to be predominately designed for employee comfort.

The team often work long hours on projects, adjusting their working hours to global time zones and needed a cosy breakout and entertainment area to get away from their desks. The rest of the office needed to be functional yet high spec, with a central meeting room for video conferencing. A solution had to be found for both the consultants and developers to project and write information on the walls near their work areas plus manage their storage to reduce office clutter.

The Solution

The design focused on texture, material quality, and creating clearly defined zones throughout the office. The entrance was given a distinct identity using black mesh ceiling tiles and feature lighting, while the break area was designed to feel more like a bar than a traditional office kitchen, with bespoke timber cabinetry, Corian worktops, wooden wall cladding, and open shelving. Ceramic tiles and a bespoke media wall help define the transition into the main workspace.

Flexible breakout seating supports everything from informal meetings to relaxation and entertainment. At the heart of the office, a central meeting room with double glazing maintains visibility while acting as a natural acoustic buffer between the sales and development teams. Its timber-clad façade makes it a focal point, fully equipped with integrated AV, lighting, and environmental controls.

it/stand desks support a variety of working styles, with cushioned pedestals encouraging impromptu collaboration. Hidden ceiling projectors display onto whiteboard scrum walls, while bespoke sliding doors in the developer area conceal storage and communications equipment.

A fully integrated smart building system controls lighting, climate, blinds, AV, and security, automatically responding to occupancy and time of day. All systems can be managed via voice command or in-wall touchscreens, ensuring comfort, efficiency, and ease of use.
