The Brief

We have worked for Sweco for many years, delivering design and build projects across the United Kingdom. Below is our most recent case study for Sweco, Glasgow. Sweco UK had expanded as much as they could in their current office but had still outgrown it. Their existing footprint no longer provided them with the mix of vitality, focus and collaborative spaces they needed.

We undertook Workplace Analysis on their behalf to understand why their existing offices did not work for them. This also helped us comprehend their visions for the new offices and gain a detailed understanding of the various business departments, their dependencies and physical requirements. Our design also had to include the branding used in their other offices. We also audited the proposed new building which included one area that had already been refurbished to CAT A and another area that had an old CAT B fit-out.

The Solution

We developed two concept designs that were presented to the business in a lunchtime session, during which employee comments were invited. All the comments were subsequently reviewed and where appropriate, incorporated within the project.

The final design included new male and female toilets plus showers and drying rooms, as well as a large open breakout area that could be used for informal meetings and large business gatherings.

To maximise natural light within the open office, the ceilings heights were increased. To create a bright, vibrant space, incorporated colours taken from SWECO’s branding, and these were used on feature walls and in the carpet colours. The project was delivered over 9 weeks and was completed to schedule and on budget.

The Finished Project

The finished Glasgow project reflected the Sweco office brand with a Scottish twist. The local team were delighted with their new work environment, particularly the improved welfare facilities together with an increase choice of meeting rooms and quiet spaces.
