The Brief

Circus PPC is a specialist paid marketing agency that works with growth-hungry brands to deliver PPC services across all aspects of the paid landscape; AdWords, Video, Social, Display, Marketplaces and many more. They currently have 12 Staff based in their new central-Leeds office within the historic Tailor’s Corner, est. 1909. and are hoping to grow to 20 staff by the end of the year.

They contacted Ben Johnson Interiors seeking help with the transformation of the bare space into something that truly represented the Circus PPC brand whilst complementing the building style, providing a collaborative, fun and open workspace that can comfortably house clients and staff alike.

There were no huge asks from Circus PPC themselves and they were incredibly open to concepts and ideas, however, they were conscious that the workplace has changed considerably and their focus was on creating a variety of dynamic workspaces that catered to different working styles.

The building itself is also a Leeds city centre landmark so the design was to be sympathetic towards this whilst enhancing the vast light and space benefits that come with older buildings.

The team at Circus PPC were also keen to have a focal kitchen area that would suit day-to-day use as well as events and staff socials etc.

The Solution

Working with our design partner, Bowman Riley, we firstly did a deep dive into the Circus PPC brand and their objectives for the space, then visited the site and started dreaming up ideas that would bring the brand to life. As a young, innovative agency with a back catalogue of accolades in their field, we wanted to bring their success and personality to the forefront, whilst using the brand name to inform the concept – a Circus certainly makes for a fun environment, after all!

The scheme plays with size and scale throughout, utilising oversized lighting, bright colours, curved furniture and an incredible, eye-catching terrazzo countertop, and we made use of quality fabrics made from recycled ocean plastic and eco-conscious options as much as we could.

Tailor’s Corner boasts incredible, large, Crittal effect windows, so we mirrored this with the glass meeting rooms and partitions to give further consistency and flow throughout the space. This also helped retain light in the smaller meeting room where there are no windows, and we added graphic wall designs to brighten this area further.

We used different furniture styles to indicate the purpose of each communal space, so the board room has bright but formal chairs that really light up the room and highlight it as a more formal meeting space, whilst the snug, quiet room and team room all have softer, more casual seating options to show the versatility of each space.

Finally, we kept the ceiling exposed to add height and depth to the space, however, the pipework etc. was painted dark to give contrast and not steal the show from the colourful scheme below.

A summary of the finished project:

This is a playful, comfortable and vibrant space that will keep this busy and successful digital marketing agency comfortable for years to come, giving them various workspace options and sociable areas to host events and the like. We love the use of scale to add a bit of dimension to the overall concept and the tasteful juxtaposition of styles that somehow perfectly complement the older building, despite being brand new and on-trend!
